National CERT

Since being established in May 2004 in collaboration with the Authority for Info-Communications technology Industry (AITI) and the Ministry of Communications, Brunei National Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) is recognized as the nation's first trusted one-stop referral agency dealing with IT related security incidents in Brunei Darussalam.

BruCERT is the central hub that coordinates and facilitates the detection, analysis and prevention of security incidents on the internet that both public and private sectors may be prone to.

BruCERT is also a full member of The Organisation of The Islamic Conference - Computer Emergency Response team (OIC-CERT) and Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team. (APCERT) whose respective objectives include exploring and developing collaborative initiatives pertaining to cyber security and improving awareness and competency in computer security incidents.

Through a global affiliation with other CERTs, BruCERT acquires valuable information on IT security threatsas well as shares up-to-date findings on security risks detected within the nation's IT infrastructure. These findings are made publicly accessible with the objective of increasing IT Security awareness.

In addition to this, BruCERT provides incident response, prevention, mitigation plans and security training for its members, national alerting services and advisories, and acts as a central report and coordination point for security incidents throughout the nation.

BruCERT's Incident Response procedure involves the following phases:

Incident Identification

  • Communication via call centre
  • Conduct Preliminary Analysis
  • Confirm the existence of an incident

Incident Containment

  • Recommend Containment Procedure

Incident Eradication

  • Analyses the preliminary work carried out through the identification phase
  • Identify the cause & vulnerabilities
  • Recommend for cleaning the affected system
  • Recommend strengthening of the system

Recovery of incident

  • To restore the affected systems and applications

Follow Up
