Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) today conducted a Cyber Security awareness talk for secondary students of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Secondary School in Jalan Kebangsaan.

The session began with a briefing on cyber security by Muhd Hijan Haji Amran of BruCERT. He covered topics such as Brunei’s Computer Misuse Act, social networking, cyber bullying and incident reporting. BruCERT also distributed Digibytes awareness booklets and goodie bags.

The briefing was followed by a presentation by ASP Mariyani Hj Abd Wahab, Head of the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). She talked about sexual exploitation of children and online grooming, including numerous local cases which involved underage victims who met their abusers online through social networks.

The session today was part of a series of seminars conducted at secondary schools nationwide, organised by the Authority for Info‐Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) in collaboration with the Department of Schools under the Ministry of Education, RBPF and BruCERT.
