Brunei’s top computer hackers were awarded with cash prizes today in a prize presentation ceremony at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag, an annual cybersecurity competition organized by local IT security firm ITPSS Sdn Bhd, saw a total of 26 teams compete in the Jeopardy-style ‘capture the flag’ competition.

A qualifying round was held online on 3 September, while the final was hosted at UTB last Sunday as part of its Science and Technology Week. 9 teams competed in the live event, solving challenges in cryptography, exploitation, digital forensics and packet analysis.

Team alert(1); emerged as champion and were awarded the top prize of $3500 in addition to cybersecurity training by the prestigious SANS Institute. In second and third place, NZN and huroom won $2500 and $1500 respectively. Prizes were presented by Minister of Education, YB Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman during a ceremony at UTB today.
