IT PROTECTIVE Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) in its role as Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) under the Creative Computing programme, recently collaborated for the second time for a student contest to create IT security awareness videos.

The objective behind this collaboration was to create cybersecurity awareness amongst young Bruneians, foster creativity and give students an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Three winners were chosen out of 10 submissions and the winning videos were assessed based on clarity of message, creativity and quality.

Muhammad Zharif Al-nazmi bin Abdul Rahman took first place with his video titled ‘Online Romance Scam,’ followed by Mohammad Naqib Hafizuddin bin Zulfikri on ‘Phishing,’ and Manilitphone Thephavanh (an international student from UTB) with ‘Beware What You Share’. The winners were rewarded with cash prizes. Their videos will be used in local television ads, cinema ads, and on BruCERT’s social media accounts.

“Most government agencies as well as companies use the latest technology in terms of ICT security. However the main problem is the ‘process’ and ‘people’ aspects of it,” Hj Mas Zuraime told The Scoop.

A prize presentation ceremony was held at ITPSS, in the presence of UTB lecturers and Programme Leader of the Creative Computing, School of Computing and Informatics, Haji ldham Maswadi bin Haji Mashud.

Head of BruCERT Haji Mas Zuraime bin Abdul Hamid handed out the prizes.

BruCERT is a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and Internet-related security in Brunei Darussalam. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advice on securing personal information.
