Cash Prizes Await Aspiring Hackers In Cyber Battle Competition

Brunei Darussalam’s premier computer hacking competition, Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag (CTF) is set to return for its 8th iteration later this month. The competition is hosted annually by local IT security firm ITPSS Sdn Bhd, offering free participation to the general public.

Cyber Battle challenges competitors to solve puzzles based on real-life scenarios in categories such as cryptography, exploitation, digital forensics, packet analysis, and web-based challenges. Aspiring hackers will find that joining CTF competitions such as Cyber Battle is one of the most interesting and fun ways to gain practical experience in the cybersecurity field. It can also benefit IT professionals by testing and sharpening their skills in ethical hacking.

The game play of the competition remains the same as previous years, in a Jeopardy-style ‘Capture The Flag’ competition where teams will be pitted against each other to solve challenges and submit ‘flags’ to earn points within a given time limit. Registration for Cyber Battle is currently open until 15th September 2023.

Cash prizes of $3,500, $2,500 and $1,500 are on offer for the top 3 teams, in addition to bonus prizes for teams that complete each category. A qualifying round will be held online this weekend to identify the top 10 teams who will move on to the finals. The final round will be a full day event on 30th September, where the finalists will face their opponents in person.

To complement the competition, ITPSS is also hosting Talks at Cyber Battle, a series of public presentations by security experts, aimed to inspire local youths to consider cybersecurity as an exciting career choice. The event features a talk on Investigating Container Breaches Using Memory Forensics by Mathias Fuchs, a Certified Instructor from SANS Institute USA.  Other topics in the line-up include Islamic Views on Digital/Cyber Security;  Defense Against Black Hats; Making My Own JARVIS; and How To Get Started in Pentesting. Talks at Cyber Battle is open to the public and attendance is free of charge.

Cyber Battle will be held on 30th September 2023 at JIS Arts Centre, and is open to the general public. For more information on the event and to register, visit www.itpss.com/cyberbattle2023.
